What a great couple of weeks we have had. We have been so impressed with how quickly the athletes have settled in and put forth a great effort. The first three weeks are always the hardest. As we continue to spend time in the water, we will be increasing yardage and focusing on good stroke technique. Across the board, everyone has stepped with a great effort and improvements have already happened. It is exciting to think how far we will be by mid February. Keep up the great work.

This Saturday, December 1st will be our first meet. It is the relay only meet at Madras. It is a really fun way to introduce new swimmers to competition and for the veterans to get back in the swing of things.

The bus will be departing Bend Senior High School at 10:00 am. Please meet at the school at 9:45 am. All swimmers should ride the bus to the school. Athletes may ride home with their parents if coaches receive a written note from parents.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for all your hard work and support.

Welcome to Lava Bear Swimming - 2018/19

Welcome to your 2018/19 Lava Bear Swim Team. My name is Christy Perret and I am your head coach. I swam competitively at OSU, and was 10th in the 200 Back at the 2000 Olympic Trials in the 200 Backstroke. I have worked as the assistant coach the Bend Senior High Lava Bears for the last three years and am very excited to be head coach this season. My new assistant is Brandon Powers. Brandon grew up in the Bend area, swimming and competing for the Bend Swim Club. Many of you may have learned to swim competitively with Brandon while he coached the Novice Swim team at Juniper.

This season should be very exciting. This is the first year for our school in the 6A league , offering several different teams to compete with. The major elements of the season will remain the same, with our Holiday meet, the City meet and, of course the District meet. The competition to make it to the State meet will be tough this year, so we will be focusing on swimming well and training early in the season. Our first few weeks of training will focus on stroke technique, starts and turns with a gradually increase in cardiovascular conditioning.

Make sure that you get yourself registered, including getting your physical in to the Athletic Department. We look forward to seeing you at our first practice!
